San Diego, CA 92129-2110"Ham radio sparks the imagination, teaches patience, tolerance and understanding, increases your
awareness of mankind's achievements and promotes worldwide friendship". - K6RLA ( © 1996 Kenneth G. Mummery )Hi, if you're in from another site, or not, I'm the president of Ken Mummery Consulting. We are a publishing and software house. We publish Employee Handbooks for the livery businesses and general corporate/business clients. We also provide licensed Drug Free Workplace policy and training products through our partner WHMC Services.
I've been a Ham since 1956, gee, that's a long time ago! First licensed as KN6RLA back in the good old days and I've held several calls since that time. After many years, I was able to obtain my old call, K6RLA. I became interested in radio when my father worked for a small radio company in San Bernardino, California (about 60 miles east of Los Angeles) during the early 1940's.
At about age five, I'd help my father build five tube AC/DC AM broadcast radios by punching holes into chassis, an item in those days that was hard to come by. Not too long after, I wired my first radio, and it worked! I was forever hooked.
Not long after receiving my Novice License, at 16, I purchased my first Gonset AM 2 Meter radio. That took a lot of talking to convince my father that it was worth the cost. By High School, I was into all the normal activities, girls, radio, girls, girls, cars, radio, girls, etc....you get the picture. Joined the local Civil Air Patrol, Squadron 33 at Norton Air Force Base, naturally I was assigned to the Communications Section and soon was the Cadet Officer in charge (after all, I had the VHF radio). As the years went by, I joined the Senior (Adult) portion of the Civil Air Patrol as a 2nd Lt., Communications Officer. Those were the days. In the late 60's, I lent the Gonset to a "good friend" and haven't seen him or the radio since. I never told my father about that!
Well, that's enough about me, I'm as active as I can be, listen more than talk (that may be due to age and too many other activities) but the thrill of getting a QSL card from some rare DX station never dies.
